Word Learning Strategy: POSSUM
Created by Maryanne Wolf and elaborated in her book, Proust and the Squid, the POSSUM technique is a fantastic, fun and theoretically sound way to teach words to children, teens and adults.
POSSYUM stands for phonology, orthography, semantics, syntax, understanding, and morphology). By using this method, teachers, therapists and parents can offer focused guidance to develop a rich understanding of a word - it's meaning, how to use it in a sentence, and how to say it and spell it - to support word learning and vpcabulary use in conversation and writing.
In this resource, you will recieve:
- 3 different versions of the POSSUM word learning mat - 1 for oral work only, 2 for written work at slightly different levels of complexity.
- A differentiated PowerPoint template with worked examples.
